Michel Bérubé may be the “best kept secret” in Canadian music and one of its most versatile singers. To a person, everyone who has worked with him has said he is destined for great things. Michel’s voice has been called “warm as a fireside” and also powerful enough to be “spine tingling”. One reviewer said that “he was born to sing Brel” after hearing him sing in French and yet his debut album of English Christmas favourites saw five tracks added to radio stations across North America. Pop icons Jennifer Warnes and Chrissie Hynde were both so impressed by his talent they recorded duets with him. Michel is a truly gifted and versatile artist who is on the verge of “breaking out”. Originally from Montreal, Michel has spent the last ten years in Toronto studying, recording and performing everywhere from The Top ‘o’ The Senator, to Casino Rama to the prestigious Town Hall in New York City. He has shared the bill with the likes of The Faith Chorale, Jackie Richardson, Amy Sky, Steven Paige and Kenny Rogers to name a few. His three night solo gig at The Fleck Theatre in the Spring of 2009 had audiences on their feet demanding encores.. Michel’s independent release of O Holy Night to radio in 2004 was so well received he followed it up with an album that included a duet with Jennifer Warnes and from which four more tracks were added to radio playlists. One track was selected for Universal Music Canada compilation CD of Christmas music and another for an EMI compilation. His first mainstream single, Through Your Eyes was called “brilliant” by industry insider Larry Leblanc and most recently his recording of a new Christmas song, Mama’s Words was heard on radio stations from Labrador to British Columbia to Florida and beyond. Michel recently partnered with Mark Lalama (Canadian Idol) as the Musical Director for his Fleck Theatre appearances and as the producer of his single Mama’s Words.
